Here is one option for keeping the floor of the loft clean and dry: cob pellet horse bedding with an overlay of timothy grass. The cob pellets are superabsorbant and can last easily for six months with an occasional raking. The Timothy grass smells sweet and can also be used for nest lining by the Seraphim.
